The Beginning

In 1992, Paul Spires was just 23 years old, working in construction for $4 an hour while supporting a young family. With determination and a vision for something better, he discovered the home inspection industry, where a single inspection could earn more than a week of construction work.

The Breakthrough

Breaking into the industry wasn’t easy. Agents already had trusted inspectors, and Paul had no differentiator. Instead of giving up, he began asking what mattered most. Agents told him they wanted professionalism, they wanted inspectors who could communicate clearly without causing unnecessary fear, and they needed inspections completed faster and more efficiently. This key differentiator was the spark for HomeTeam to grow far beyond what Paul had started with.

Innovation in Action

Paul took that feedback and created a new approach. He built the HomeTeam model, sending two inspectors to every job. That change meant faster service, easier scheduling, and higher quality results. He also introduced the first-ever inspection software, allowing reports to be delivered instantly on-site. For the first time, agents and clients left a property with answers in hand, and with greater confidence in the decisions ahead.

A Business Model for Owners

From the start, Paul’s vision extended beyond inspections. He built the HomeTeam “Executive Model,” which gave franchise owners the ability to build real businesses rather than simply owning a job. By leading teams instead of working alone, owners gained freedom, scalability, and the opportunity to create lasting legacies.

HomeTeam Today

Decades later, HomeTeam continues to innovate and support its owners while staying true to its family roots. The company is still operated by founder Paul Spires and his family: his son Josh Spires serves as Vice President, his daughter Jessica Cook leads as Franchise Development Manager, his son-in-law Matt Cook directs operations, and his nephew Mitch Dinkins serves as a Franchise Development Representative. Having grown up alongside the franchise network, Paul’s children have always viewed HomeTeam owners as an extension of the family; a culture that continues to this day.

At the same time, HomeTeam has welcomed many dedicated non-family professionals into leadership, creating a well-balanced, uniquely personal culture that blends family values with professional expertise.
